| Introduction |
ESPORT (Essential Skills Portfolio) is a basic Skills assessment and planning tool. It helps people who are preparing for entry level occupations. ESPORT-Plus, with PLATO, offers a supported learning program tailored to the occupation you choose. Explore this site in any order you want. The steps below will give you access to all the features. |
| Step 1. Interest Inventory |
| Answer fifty questions about things you like to do and the way you like to do them. The program will list occupations that may appeal to you. You can register and save the list. Then go to Job Futures to find out more about occupations on your list - how much they pay and how much demand there is for them. |
| Step 2. Self Assessment |
| Rate yourself in ten Essential Skills (Reading Text, Document Use, Writing, Numeracy, Oral Communication, Problem Solving, Decision Making, Job Task Planning, Finding Information, and Computer Use). Compare your skill levels with the levels required for different occupations. |
| Step 3. Choose Occupation |
| Choose one occupation that interests you, that will be in demand in the future, and that comes close to matching your current skill level. Now you can start a portfolio targeted to your choice. |
| Step 4. Portfolio Builder |
| Use your portfolio to demonstrate how your Essential Skills match the Skills you need for the job you want. When you are finished, print out an Essential Skills Résumé or e-mail it to an employer. |
| Step 5. Follow your learning plan |
| Create a learning plan that will help you improve and document the Skills you need for your chosen occupation. ESPORT offers a variety of learning tools to help you reach your goals. |
| HRSDC Authentic Materials |
| Authentic Materials give you samples of reading, writing, and math Skills taken from real tasks in the workplace. Tutors can go online and find suggested learning activities to use with these materials. |
